Abstract
A podcast (1hr 5min) of an interview between Colonel (Retired) David Bates, Senior Lecturer/Practitioner in Disaster Response, University of Cumbria, and Colin Smart, CEO of the Trauma Support Group (TSG). TSGTalk aims to contribute positively towards the care of an injured casualty or vulnerable patient. This discussion explores how a sense of place or understanding community context evoke a philosophy of social reality which compels us to shape our communications with people that need our advocacy, aid or assistance in ways that they are familiar with.
Why is understanding the social structure of the people we care for important? Will it make a difference to the outcome of the care we provide, and is it something we should incorporate into our care plans to make a real difference? We are honoured to speak with Colonol (Retired) David Bates ARRC BN MMedEd MPH SFHEA FIHSCM FRSPH MloD, Senior Lecturer at the University of Cumbria. David will take us through this subject, explaining why an understanding of social structure can help us provide optimal care wherever we work.
