Abstract
Who are the whales that visit the Icelandic seas each summer? How has human respect for whales been manifest – historically, and to the present day? Such questions have intrigued artists Bryndis Snæbjörnsdóttir and Mark Wilson, whose work explores the intricate and environmentally telling relationships between humans and other animals. This book documents their most recent project, Seas' Blue Yonder, in which the duo embarked on a journey tracking individual whales physically, acoustically and culturally, in relation to ever-shifting, environmentally inflected human values. Here they have drawn together curators and scientists, who write from their unique perspectives in respect of whales and the Seas' Blue Yonder project. The contributors are: Eva Björk Káradóttir, Filipa Ramos, Marianne H. Rasmussen, Pair of Stave, Snæbjörnsdóttir/Wilson, Aesa Sigurjonsdottir and Aevar Petersen.
