Abstract
Context:
The joint local authority substance use team and commissioning teams are currently re-commissioning the substance use (drugs and alcohol only) services for both Westmorland and Furness and Cumberland. Health and Society Knowledge Exchange (HASKE), at the University of Cumbria, was commissioned by Cumberland Council and Westmorland and Furness Council, to facilitate two co-design workshops with participants with both lived and learned experience of addiction services. The purpose of the workshops was to provide insight on the key ingredients for the engagement and recovery support service, which will form level 1 of the proposed new service design.
Methodology:
In May 2025, two workshops were delivered by the HASKE research team in Barrow-in-Furness and Carlisle. A total of 22 participants attended the workshops. The format of the workshops followed a world café style, and discussions focused on ideal options for how to access substance use services; buildings and support environment; assessments; partnerships and referral processes, including information sharing; and the menu of recovery support choices. The data collected through the workshops were analysed thematically.
