Abstract

University of Cumbria's Senior Lecturer in Paramedic Practice Dr Matt Capsey took part in the Health Innovation North East and North Cumbria Citizen’s Jury on Pain Management; he was appointed to the jury following a competitive process. Matt contributed to a panel titled “How do we achieve a shift away from medical intervention, in order to better support people who live with persistent pain?”. Matt will share his expertise developed through his professional practise and PhD research on the use of hospital and ambulance emergency services by patients experiencing back pain. The North East and North Cumbria region encounters substantial difficulties in delivering coordinated care for individuals with chronic pain, often relying on strong painkillers such as opioids. The Citizens' Jury, comprising fifteen individuals from across the region, convenes to listen to experts, examine critical issues, and formulate practical recommendations to enhance NHS pain management in our area.
