Abstract: | The history of Brazil and of Latin America in general is marked by the figure of the voyager – a mix of an artist and a scientist – who has charted the territory and classified its fauna and flora. The collective exhibition in Otras Floras aims to redeem the concept of the ancient investigative expeditions of Latin America. The show brings together works of more than 14 artists (one of whom is Robert Williams), who have developed works from the perspective of scientists, in charge of representing and cataloguing the fauna and flora of the continent. The works displayed incite the questioning of the tensions between the natural and its cultural elaboration, as alternative forms of classification and inquiries about the territory. |
