Abstract
Marcia Reid Fotheringham gave a keynote speech at this annual conference, organised by the University of Cumbria's Institute of Health. Marcia is an Honorary Fellow of the University of Cumbria and a Deputy Lieutenant of Cumbria. As the first Black woman to be the High Sheriff of Cumbria (and the third in the country) and with a long history as a clinical psychologist, Marcia challenged us to reflect on allyship being a choice, and that even if we do nothing, we need to understand that has an effect. It is action that makes the difference, so her key message to us was “do something”.
