Abstract: | Repeated viewing of films, and the possibilities of delay, pause and reflection afforded by digital viewing offer Laura Mulvey’s ‘possessive spectator’ the opportunity to hold onto favourite moments, fragmented from linear narrative. Mulvey claims that “In this delayed cinema the spectator finds a heightened relation to the human body, particularly to the star”. While it is interesting to think of this heightened relation to the human body having a relationship to Barthes’s erotic intermittency and the passionate text/viewer experience, I wondered if there was a simple way to show this fetishisation of the star/object. So I made Let’s Not Talk About Money (2015). |
