Abstract
Meet the authors of the 2024 book “Doing phenomenography: a practical guide”! Brought to you by ASIS&T European Chapter and the University of Sheffield Information School. Who it’s for: Anyone interested in qualitative research methods, or who is interested in writing about research methods! After the authors introduce their book (and give a concise description of phenomenography) there will be plenty of time for questions and informal discussion. The book: Doing phenomenography: a practical guide, published in 2024 by Policy Press, has been described by phenomenography’s founder, Ference Marton, as “The best and only vade mecum of phenomenography.” In it, the authors outline a step by step approach to carrying out this qualitative research approach, drawing on their own experience as phenomenographers. There are more details at https://policy.bristoluniversitypress.co.uk/doing-phenomenography. The authors: Professor Amanda M.L. Taylor-Beswick is Director of Centre for Digital Transformation and Professor of Digital and Social Sciences at the University of Cumbria, UK. Dr Eva Hornung is the Librarian of the City of Dublin (Ireland) ETB Curriculum Development Unit and a qualitative researcher. She carried out her phenomenographic doctoral research in the Information School, University of Sheffield, UK (on solo librarians’ conceptions of Continuing Professional Development; she is also very active professionally in Irish librarian groups).
