Ian joined a panel to discuss the ‘Role of Convention on Biodiversity (CBD) and Nature Positive Universities (NPU) in Promoting Eco-restoration’ at this international conference. The conference builds on the key discussions and outcomes of the United Nations Climate Change conference held in 2023. It is hosted by the Indraprastha College for Women (University of Delhi), in collaboration with the Indian Council for Social Science Research (Ministry of Education, GOI). With nearly one fifth of the world’s population, India has a regional and global responsibility for shaping policy, but more so driving practice to bring about rapid transformations to a low-carbon economy. India has been disproportionately impacted by disaster impacts, with notable events (e.g., floods, droughts, extreme high-temperatures and wildfires) in recent years. These experiences at the forefront climate variability and change impacts, especially in sensitive locations like the Indian Himalayan Region, highlight the severity and urgency of the challenge, and can be used to galvanise global action. The conference will explore how India can enhance its role on the global stage, leveraging its diverse experiences and rich heritage to influence climate strategies and sustainable development goals.
