(Contact the author)Abstract
Three members of the University of Cumbria's Digital Simulation team, Scott Inglis, Claire Whitehouse, and Finn Drude presented on a Dungeons and Dragons-style tabletop simulation at the Global Festival of Active Learning. The unique approach involves designing a Dungeons and Dragons-style simulation that will transport students into an engaging and dynamic educational adventure. The primary objective of this initiative is to merge the academic rigors of nursing education with the excitement and interactivity of a session which seeks to simulate risk reward in a nurse education context. Students will embark on a carefully crafted quest that mirrors real-world nursing scenarios, encouraging problem-solving, critical thinking, and collaborative decision-making. Students will not only deepen their understanding of nursing concepts but also enhance their teamwork and communication skills through the use of this style of gamification as scaffolding to enhance emotional investment in the session.
