Abstract

This chapter looks at child victimisation from a strengths-based perspective. I draw on data from my PhD studies to critically consider participants' narratives of recovery. The findings lend support to the recent redefinition of children's status, from witness to victim. Moreover, they offer an account of recovery. In response to the analysis of the participants' life stories, I have proposed a framework to describe the stages of recovery. This five-staged framework seeks to capture the key points in participants' descriptions of their recovery journeys. In this chapter I describe the proposed framework, drawing directly on the voices of participants to offer lived exemplars of each stage. This framework is in a formative stage of development and testing and will no doubt be refined in response to future research; however, I present it here as a starting point for discussion and further research.
