Abstract

This poster, by Joanna Stanberry, explores the legacy and modern impacts of Charlotte Mason (1842-1923) as a social entrepreneur towards understanding how rural regeneration can benefit from home education, broadly understood. Mason called Ambleside, UK, ‘a university without walls’, advocating a pedagogy that makes sense of cultural and natural heritage towards collective engagement, citizenship, and prosperous community life. Joanna Stanberry is a postgraduate researcher at the Initiative for Leadership and Sustainability and the Institute of Science and Environment, and Co-lead of SDGAction Cumbria. The poster was also presented by Joanna at the Linnaeus University conference, Rural Entrepreneurship in Times of Transformation, June 13-15, 2023.
