(Contact the author)Abstract
The role of further education colleges and other FE providers is often overlooked and misunderstood by students, parents, employers and even education professionals. Andrew will discuss how FE bridges gaps between schools and universities, and the transformational impact it can have on the lives of young people and adults. He will also explain how the sector remains fleet of foot in order to meet the changing needs of employers, ensuring they have the workforce they need now and for years to come.
Andrew is passionate about the opportunities and second chances that FE provides. Having worked in the sector for over 20 years, he has seen FE students to go on to make outstanding contributions to their professions and communities. Andrew is currently Principal and Chief Executive at Furness College in South Cumbria, Chief Executive Officer at South Cumbria Multi-Academy Trust and also has the role of Professor of Practice in Collaborative Education Leadership at the University of Cumbria. He is also a Board Member of Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership, representing the FE sector.
