Teeth (2014) [film]

Teeth is a digital film (2 minutes 19 seconds) and was re-made into Teeth II (2015) (http://janetopping.co.uk/portfolio/teeth-ii/). Teeth inserts the artist literally, and amusingly, into the Blade Runner world, commenting on the relationship between film star and fan desire. The video is made using a sequence in Blade Runner during which the female lead and love interest, Rachel (Sean Young), watches Deckard (Harrison Ford) get cleaned up after a fight. This section of the film is important as it is the only moment of erotic looking afforded Rachel. The audio of the work replaces the body of Sean Young with that of the artist. Teeth toured as part of Film Open 2015 - a screening programme of new moving image work. The selection has been made by Steven Cairns, ICA Associate Curator of Artists’ Film and Moving Image from an open call to members of the UK’s leading art support networks, the programme launches at Spike Island and later travels on to Eastside Projects, Birmingham, Castlefield Gallery, Manchester, S1 Artspace, Sheffield and the ICA, London.
