Abstract
Building blocks are used here in a literal and metaphorical sense. Kinaesthetic learning in the outdoors is inclusive and supports a range of learning styles, and social and cultural diversity. Activities utilising building blocks in a forest environment and as a review promote serious play as an intentional paradox in which deeper levels of knowledge, meaning and significance are emergent as each activity progresses. This has parallels to facilitating co-creative and reflective activities through LEGO Serious Play® in which visual 3D models can prompt ideas, concepts and thoughts with communication, creativity and shared understanding. This poses the question as to the scope of the outdoor environment for building visual metaphors and to what extent key insights and connections can be made.
