Abstract
The article discusses learning experience in outdoor education influenced by personal encounters and professional practice. Topics covered include the effects of technology in outdoor activities, the pillars of adventure focusing on authenticity, mastery and uncertainty, and an overview of the authors' travels such as an open canoe trip in Scotland. Also mentioned are the influence of media on risk aversion, and the importance of risk management countermeasures.
