Abstract

Empathy is a complex concept. Patient narratives can help nurses to understand and recognise situations when empathy is required. The fifth in our seven-part series on patient narrative explores empathy. We focus on a patient story relevant to all fields of nursing and raise key issues about how health professionals convey empathy to patients.
