Abstract
The purpose of this dissertation is to discuss the implementation of a practice based education framework for advanced practitioners to assess, diagnose and treat patients presenting with chest pain. There is a lack of a robust framework locally and with ongoing work from numerous organisations to develop a national standard. Current frameworks both locally and nationally are critically analysed. An educational framework is proposed for advanced practitioners to improve care for patients presenting with undifferentiated chest pain. The use of competence theory is discussed to develop a framework that is intended to provide a robust framework improving ACP’s skills knowledge and ability to care for patients with this common presentation. An implementation strategy is discussed using change management and leadership theory to ensure that the evidence not only fits the needs of the ACP’s but the organisation and perceived current standards. The framework and implementation are discussed allowing reflection on improvement to be undertaken. Evaluation theory is critically evaluated. A comprehensive evaluation plan is discussed with potential methods to evaluate the impact of the project on clinical competence and performance.
