Abstract
Dr Elizabeth Bates gave this talk at the symposium 'Challenging the gendered approach to IPV research: working with perpetrators and victims', which she organized alongside Jenny Mackay of Coventry University and Sarah Wallace of the University of South Wales. The talk covers raising awareness and improving services for male victims of abuse and reflections on a three year development project in Scotland.
Overview:
• Introduce some of the literature on men’s victimisation
• Discuss aim of current study and the gaps it sought to fill
• Describe methodology and sample
• Discuss preliminary findings specifically here focused around controlling behaviour
• Consider how these findings could inform practice.
