Abstract

The second edition of this work takes into account developments since History in the National Curriculum was introduced in 1991, exploring ways in which experience gained since then might be built on and refined in line with the Revised History Order. It aims to help student, newly qualified and experienced teachers to create a more coherent history curriculum which reflects their locality and the particular needs of their school. The author shows how recently produced teaching resources encourage historical thinking, and she also outlines relevant current research and suggests how decisions about balance, breadth and depth may be made in restructuring the curriculum. Case studies show how existing planning models may be modified and how students and teachers are developing their approaches to primary history.
